In a shocking turn of events, Kolkata police have cracked the case of a murdered postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, thanks to an unlikely clue – a torn Bluetooth earphone. The victim, a second-year student in the chest medicine department, was found dead in the hospital’s seminar hall on Friday. Her semi-nude body bore multiple injury marks, and preliminary autopsy reports indicated sexual abuse prior to the murder.

The breakthrough in the case came when investigators meticulously analyzed CCTV footage from the hospital. They noticed Roy entering the premises wearing Bluetooth earphones around 4 AM, but leaving without them. This discrepancy led police to search the crime scene, where they discovered a broken earphone piece that matched Roy’s missing set.

Further investigation revealed Roy’s history of inappropriate behavior towards women within the hospital. His role as a civic volunteer had granted him easy access to various departments, raising questions about the institution’s security protocols.

The police’s thorough approach to the investigation included setting up a command center with 15 laptops to analyze hours of CCTV footage. They also gathered testimonies from hospital staff, which helped establish Roy’s presence at the time of the crime.

During questioning, Roy reportedly showed signs of distress and eventually confessed to the crime. The discovery of pornographic content on his mobile phone added to the concerns about his character and intentions.

The incident has sparked outrage across West Bengal, with junior doctors and medical staff staging protests demanding improved security measures in hospitals. In response, Kolkata Police CommissionerVineet Goyal has issued a special advisory calling for enhanced safety protocols, including increased police presence and the installation of additional CCTV cameras.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a strong stance on the case, vowing to seek the death penalty for the accused and pushing for a fast-track trial.

This tragic event has highlighted the urgent need for better security measures in healthcare institutions and the importance of thorough background checks for individuals granted access to sensitive areas. As the case moves forward, it serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by medical professionals and the critical role of vigilance in ensuring their safety.
